| You're asleep when you're hypnotised | The sleep state is the client's deep hypnosis/trance state but her/his mind is listening and processing information at all times |
| You're unconscious when hypnotised | The Sub/unconscious mind is fully aware of the conversation taking place between the therapist and the client |
| Hypnosis is the dominance and manipulation of gullible people by the hypnotist | A client's mind only accepts what makes sense to them. If wrong / illogical suggestions are given, the client's mind will reject the information/suggestions |
| Hypnosis is a magical power | Hypnosis is a skill which allows the subconscious mind to process information and resolve issue(s) so there is nothing magical about it |
| People can remain in trance until the hypnotherapist commands them to awake | If the client is uncomfortable at any stage, s/he can open their eyes and they will be awake |
| Hypnosis can cure almost any ailment | There are certain limitation to what hypnotherapist can help her/him with |
| Hypnosis is unchristian or unislamic (Personal research) | Hypnotherapy is an ethical therapy. This therapy does not question your belief system |

| People can be made to do embarrassing things when hypnotised | This only happens on stage which is against the policies of GHR (General Hypnotherapy Registered) and code of Ethics |
| Under hypnosis people can gain paranormal powers | The client cannot gain paranormal powers after being hypnotised or during/after session |
| Under hypnosis people can be made to tell the truth | In hypnosis, the client only reveals the information s/he wishes to share. The client is in full control of her/his thoughts |
